The Pentagon doesn’t have a recipe for Oatmeal Cookies; instead it has, of course, a formula.
The ingredients shall be mixed in a batter (how’s this going to work?), then deposited (where?), baked until done as indicated by normal color and texture, and the cookies handled in such a fashion that they remain intact. The oatmeal cookies shall be completely covered with a continuous uniform (what else) chocolate coating in an amount which shall be not less than 40 percent (quite some caliber) by weight of the finished product.
The rectangular shaped coated oatmeal cookie shall not exceed 3-1/2 by 2-1/2 inches and shall not exceed 7/16 inch (woe be any cookie of 7/15 inch) thickness. Its interior shall be crisp and have the characteristic flavor of oatmeal (quod erat expectandum).
The moisture content of the uncoated baked cookie bar shall be not more than 3.5 percent, the weight of the coated oatmeal cookie not less than 43 grams, and the chocolate coating free from cracks, chips or rough spots (simply uniform).
This specification covers chocolate covered oatmeal cookies inflexible (inflexible or rather in flexible?) bags for use by the Department of Defense as a component of operational rations.
